love to ride in a free europe

What is Crossing Borders about?
With Crossing Borders, the title is also somewhat of a mission statement: it's about overcoming boundaries. We don't want to moralize about our little cycling trip, but we are friends of a free, borderless Europe, and we enjoy bike tours without looking at national borders. We like spending our time on our bikes and enjoy meeting and talking to people regardless of origin, gender, religion, age, or other trivialities.
Departure
The starting and finishing points are Schicke Mütze in Düsseldorf and Off the Map in Maastricht. The route, shaped like a figure eight, begins from these locations and only repeats in the middle near Floßdorf. Time windows and other details will follow soon; we will definitely start early enough to make the most of daylight.
Catering
Right by the tranquil Old Rur River in Floßdorf, we will set up a refreshment station in the former clubhouse of JV Floßdorf 07. The selection there will vary slightly throughout the day, but you can be sure that you will find plenty of food and drink. In addition, there will be refreshment stations at the turnaround points of the route at Off the Map and Schicke Mütze, ensuring that you will never be without supplies for more than 70 kilometers.
Speed
We offer guided groups with pacemakers and guides that you can join. This is especially useful for riders who aren't very experienced with long distances. There will be a 25 km/h group and a faster group; the exact paces will be announced later. Of course, you can also tackle the route alone or with your riding buddies; in that case, you just need to make sure you stay within the time frame of the aid stations. We will send out a survey to all participants before the tour so we can organize the gruppettos.
Goal
At the finish line, you can look forward to a generous portion of pasta to replenish your carbohydrate stores. Last year, the atmosphere in the evening was fantastic; despite exhaustion, many thoroughly enjoyed the shared meal and drinks. Whether at Mütze or Off the Map, a fitting end to a great day awaits you.
The route
The route is relatively flat considering its length of approximately 265 km, however, the 1000 meters of elevation gain are concentrated in a few specific spots. There are a couple of short, steep climbs, so a suitable gear ratio is recommended. You will receive the route as a GPS file for your navigation device via email a few days before July 5, 2026.
